In 1972, he opened a small retail jewelry store in Spokane, WA, and Rings & Things was born. Beads Unlimited aka The Brighton Bead Shop at 25.

It's hard to believe that it's 25 years since Beads Unlimited aka The Brighton Bead Shop opened its doors for the first time. On that first icy Brighton day in March 1986, notable for it's three-inch snowfall, the shop was sparsely populated and less than fifty pounds was taken. A quarter of a century on and Beads Unlimited is now a highly successful, stately, silver haired lady and an essential part of the beading community.

To celebrate their Silver Jubilee, Beads Unlimited is running bucketloads of competitions, give-aways and charity events throughout the year. One of the most important parts of their Jubilee year is their charity pledge. Beads Unlimited aim to raise £10,000 for the RNLI. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is run solely by volunteers across the UK and the Republic of Ireland. They provide 24-hour lifeboats and seasonal lifeguards dedicated to saving lives at sea.

To help reach their target, The Brighton Bead Shop will be hosting a ton of in-store events and some of the staff will be competing in various sports fundraisers including a Brighton pier to pier swim! Beads Unlimited also launched their charity bead in January 2011. You can purchase this special bead for a suggested donation, when you check out at Beads Unlimited. The International Fashion Colorworks 2010 Beading Contest was a resounding success for all its participants: the contestants, the sponsors, the judges, and the bead lovers!

Our sponsors got great positive exposure, broadened their reach and name recognition, and increased their good will perception in the beading community. All of our 2010 sponsors have already committed to participation at an even higher level in the 2011 Contest. They say,

The first international Fashion Colorworks 2010 Beading Contest is over! We would like to say THANK YOU to all entrants, jurors, and sponsors who helped us make the contest successful. 83 participants from 20 countries submitted 132 entries! Today we celebrate our bead holiday together, with our winners, all participants, jurors, sponsors, and bead lovers. In general, we reached our goal and feel happy! We are looking forward to seeing all of them in 2011 and hope that the next year contest would attract more artists!
